If you've read Digger, Volumes 1 & 2, you'll know why you want Digger Volume 3. "A wombat. A dead god. A most peculiar epic...." Digger is a female wombat. She sets out to tunnel -- though she doesn't know why, now -- and ends up in a temple of Ganesh, so far from home that no one has even heard of her home. Turns out that although wombats have little or no use for magic, she may be key to solving a major magical problem. Enroute she meets Shadowchild, a young creature who may or may not be a demon, and who asks the most difficult questions a parent could answer, an oracular slug, the Veiled warriors who are servants of all the gods, and much, much more. Tightly plotted, with a wry twist of humor (vampire SQUASH, anyone?) and very much worth having in hard copy. It's on-going, and updated on Tuesdays and Thursdays at [...]... but you'll still want a hard copy. Digger Vol 3 Ursula Vernon 9780979149634 Books Reviews
With a well honed dousing rod for wit, Vernon delivers yet another instalment of the un-beatable wombat known as Digger. Remarkable feminist, and hugely entertaining, this is highly recomended for anyone interested in a new slant on person-to-person interaction and the complicated relationships we get ourselves into.
I immediately fell in love with this series after having it recommended to me online. The author's knowledge of religions shines through, producing a story that is conceptually intriguing and well told. I consider this a must-read.
Digger is a fantastic series, and if you are for some reason reading this review without having read the series (or first 2 books) please go do so. [...]
The physical book is well made. I've had it a while, and it isn't falling apart or showing any unusual signs of wear for a paperback. Includes "An illustrated guide to moles" in back.
This is the softback version of an on-line comic. Seek for wombat vernon digger and find the original.
You should keep an eye on the url, and check when it skips numbers.
This is the third volume in what needs to be at least a 4 and likely a 5-and-continuing set.
The writer has a very wonderfully strange world. It does all fit together, but just not in a single volume.
I like this, my kids like this. Our only possible complaint is the slowness of the delivery, but we are grateful for this epic.
In this volume, shadowchild's character is filled out a bit more, more of the the beginning of the problem is exposed, and important nearly(?) off stage character dies, all with consequences for Digger.
While I am tempted to say that shadowchild is one of the more interesting persons(?) I have encountered in literature, there are many good and wonderful people in this.
As an engineer, I love the geologist and civil engineer side of Digger.
Anyway I got this series of books because I wanted to share the Digger saga, because I wanted to refer back to the beginning for details to hard to scan back for 600 odd (yes, very) pages, (including pages not normally shown in sequence), and because I would not mind supporting the artist in a small way.
